Duaringa landfill (Lot 59, Plan KM234) is located at 50 Elizabeth street approximately 1.2 km north-east from Duaringa town centre. Duaringa landfilling activities commenced in 1960 and operated until 2014. Since then, it has been converted into a transfer station.
In 2016, Council developed Duaringa Landfill Rehabilitation Plan. Rehabilitation works at Duaringa landfill started in 2015 to comply with council EA condition. However, old landfill was not covered with topsoil and vegetation was not reinstated at some parts of disturbed landfill. High erosion has eroded eastern part of landfill near the stormwater ponds.
In 2019, Council developed Erosion and Sediment Management Plan for Duaringa landfill that has recommended drainage and sediment control measures for Duaringa landfill.
The Central Highlands Regional Council requires the contractors to carry out rehabilitation works that comply with Environment Authority (EA) condition. Council also recommends considering suggestions mentioned in rehabilitation Plan Duaringa Waste Management Facility and Online Erosion and Sediment Management Plan.
