The township of Collinsville is located on a major transport route for Heavy Vehicles. The Type 1 RoadTrain Route passes through the township, with Bowen Developmental Road being the major transport route out to Gregory Developmental Road, Glenden, Clermont and the Bowen Basin. Collinsville is located 273km from Mackay and 275km from Townsville, both major freight distribution ports, making the location of the township
a prime spot for layover or rest activities.
The situation at present is for when drivers are taking their stops in Collinsville, the heavy vehicles are parking roadside on Railway Road. The seal on this road is deteriorating quickly under the stopping and take off movements of the vehicles. The length of Railway Road adjacent to the RV Park is a prime location for heavy vehicles to stop, as they can access the amenities at the RV Park, as well as walk to town for a
meal or shopping.
The Whitsunday Regional Council’s initial investigations into developing a Heavy Vehicle Network Plan have identified that transport operators are seeking more parking opportunities close to the townships for layover purposes. They need a safe parking area that is close to amenities and services of the township.
